Deacons

Our Mission Statement

Deacons are servants that fill the needs of those unable to participate physically, emotionally or spiritually in the Wider Church.  By serving like Christ, as his “hands and feet”,  and meeting their needs by exemplifying caring, love, passion and prayer, we hope to bring everyone into the fellowship of the Lord.  As a Deacon, we are ordained to be a witness to the Gospel through a life of service and our actions.  Per Matthew 5: 13-16, Deacons are the salt and light of the earth.  And as we serve others,  may we “let our light shine before others,”  that they may see God’s good deeds and glorify our Father in Heaven.

As you can see from our Mission Statement, the Deacons are servants that fill the needs of those people that are unable to participate physically, emotionally or spiritually in the Wider Church.  How do the Evergreen Presbyterian Church Deacons do this?

  • We provide caring, love, passion and prayer to our nineteen Special Friends this year.
  • We include requested prayers from our congregation members in our Prayer Chain so the whole church can include these requests in their daily prayers.
  • Deacons reach out to our six college students and two people in the military through cards, communication and special cookies on Valentine’s Day. On Veterans Day, we recognize the veterans in our congregation.
  • Quarterly, we take blessed communion elements to member’s homes, to serve communion for those unable to receive communion at church.
  • The Deacons provide meals to people unable to cook related to surgery, illness or caring for a sick family member. We provide rides for people to physician appointments, rehab appointments, chemotherapy or radiation treatments and errands like grocery shopping or picking up prescriptions
  • We celebrate our members during Mother’s and Father’s Day while donating money to local organizations that help with parenting.  We celebrate birthdays and anniversaries with cards, phone calls, and flowers and muffins for special birthdays and anniversaries.
  • For those in need during a difficult time in one’s life, we send cards, make phone calls, take muffins, give a clay or crochet cross and pray with them. The Deacons make visits to the hospital, rehabilitation unit, assisted living, Hospice or home and cry, laugh, pray and sometimes just listen.

As a Deacon, we are ordained to be a witness to the Gospel through a life of service and our actions.  By serving others, like Jesus Christ did, as his “hands and feet”, we bring everyone the fellowship of the Lord.  May our light shine upon others so we can see God’s good deeds and glorify our Father in Heaven.
