"The Earth Care team is excited to announce an addition to our church landscape. In mid-November, Natorps will plant a young White Oak tree in the front yard as a visible example to the community of Evergreen Presbyterian's commitment to Earth Care. White Oak trees have been identified as some of the best trees for ""terrestrial sequestration,"" or carbon capture, removing carbon from the atmosphere and storing it in the wood for the life of the tree. The tree will also help cool the nearby area during our increasingly hot summers.
- The new White Oak tree is a species certified as one of the best trees for carbon capture. It is also disease resistant and also drought resistant..
- The 15 gallon tree will be planted by Natorps in December. It will be in a dormant stage.
- This is a slow growing variety but over the next 50 years will be as much as 50-80' high and 50-80' wide so, in order to avoid future issues with overhead cables and wires, the tree will be centered between the two trees by the road and planted approximately 30' back from the sidewalk
- The location will provide ample space in the front lawn for any events and activities and will not interfere with sun reaching the new solar panels.
- Care of the tree, including watering, will be important over the first 18 months and will be handled by the Earth Care team.."
